Money flow forecast
ETF inflows/outflows are a delayed but reliable read on what institutions are actually doing — not what they're saying.
The headline number
Net flow over 30 minutes, broken out by ETF. Positive green bars = creation units (cash entering); red = redemptions (cash leaving). The IN / OUT split tells you which side is rotating.
Phihelm tracks 14 ETFs by default: SPY, QQQ, IWM, plus the 11 sector SPDRs (XLE, XLF, XLK, XLI, XLP, XLV, XLB, XLU, XLY, XLRE, XLC).
Reading the flows
- SPY +$100M / QQQ +$99M — broad index buying. Bullish for ES/NQ.
- SPY −$50M / IWM +$30M — rotation from large-cap into small-cap. Often risk-on.
- XLE +$200M / XLK −$100M — energy outperforming tech. Watch for sector-ETF arb on the chart.
Look for
A single ETF showing > $100M in 30 minwith the rest of the complex idle. That's a directional bet, not a market rebalance.
Avoid
Reacting to flows on illiquid holidays / half-days. The thin tape makes a $30M creation look bigger than it is. The panel marks off-hours sessions with a phase indicator — respect it.
Where the data comes from
Yahoo Finance for the 14 ETFs, refreshed daily after the 17:00 ET close. Phihelm computes the net flow using shares outstanding × price methodology — same approach Bloomberg uses.
Tip
The Forecast strip at the bottom of the cockpit shows a 30-minute rolling tally. When the bar grows fast in the first 5 minutes of a session, that's your signal that the day has direction.
